The story of Job is one that has weighed on my heart for many years and is arguably one of the most controversial stories in the Bible.

Enter our hero, Job. An ordinary guy who is the center of (essentially) a double dog dare between God and Satan. While God technically allows Satan to affect all of our lives on a daily basis, this is one of the only literal depictions of where Satan is given permission of free reign over a person (without killing him) in an attempt to dissolve his faith.

Satan destroys everything that Job knows and loves, including his family. A lesser person would have "cursed God and died", as he was encouraged to do. But instead, he praises God despite everything that has happened to him. The phrase "God gives and God takes away" is the birthchild of this story.

Yet, out of the ashes of what is admittedly a tragic story, Job's faith and obedience overpowers Satan's attempt to separate him from God. I can't think of a better hero to share.
